Head Students' Welcome

Here at Co-op Academy Belle Vue we have high standards and expectations that set us apart from other schools. This is what we call The Belle Vue Difference. One example of this is how we transition to lessons in silence. This means that students feel safe knowing they have a school where the corridors are always going to be calm and purposeful.

Co-op Academy Belle Vue runs an elective programme from 3:340- 4:35pm. The programme consists of academic, physical and creative opportunities for all students. Each elective runs for a whole term, we develop our skills in each elective and look at how they link to careers.

Co-op Academy Belle Vue acknowledges each student's achievement as one of our CARE principles through our reward system. For example, every Friday which is commonly known as feel good Friday, we have form tutor star of the week, big CARE challenges, literacy star of the week, library star of the week and many more opportunities to celebrate achievement.

During community lunch at Co-op Academy Belle Vue, we sit with our form group to have community lunch and have conversations together. On  Trending Tuesday and Thoughtful Thursday, we have community conversation, which is when a topic links to what is portrayed in the news or in our CARE curriculum and students discuss with their form group before discussing together as a whole year group.

Being a head student has developed my leadership and communication skills, teamwork. It has helped me to become a capable leader, making me a role model for students. Each student leader leads a committee of pioneers from years seven and eight. So far, we have led events around the academy and raised over £500 for Save the Children and Bernardos. As head students, we have leadership of the school council to make sure everyone in the academy has a voice.

Here at Co-op Academy Belle Vue we have many different people to ask for support from whether that is your form tutor, other members of staff or SLT. Support will be given to anyone that asks, it makes all the students feel included and appreciated and everyone has a trusted member of staff to ask for help or talk about anything that is worrying them. This is something special we have here: the connection between staff and students.

At Belle Vue we have excellent brand-new facilities, including the MUGA, the football pitches and the sports hall. The school is brand new, which means everything is in excellent condition from the toilets to the sports hall, we show our CARE principle of responsibility and look after the academy. At Belle Vue our facilities help our students to express themselves, whether it is by acting in the auditorium, playing football on the MUGA or studying in our library.

At Co-op Academy Belle Vue we have a very tight routine schedule to keep everyone safe and to be as inclusive as we can be. This includes SSF which is the way we walk around the school at all times of the day, silent, single file and facing forward. We always walk on the left to be inclusive of all and to keep everyone safe. We have routines like SLANT to show respect to the member of staff or student speaking and so the students themselves can focus more on the lesson or the community time.

Being a Head Student has allowed me to improve my confidence and my speaking skills. It has also taught me that leadership is to lead by example and to listen to others to identify their needs and take it to one of our committees responsible for those needs. We also create events to raise money for charities, such as Bernardos and other events to educate students on life outside of school, like our enterprise day, which taught students how to start a business and develop their ideas. Overall, being a head student has improved my leadership abilities and made me a positive role model for younger students in years 7 and 8.
