On Friday 31st January the Year 10 Student Leadership team had the privilege of attending 1 Angel Square for a special training day. The purpose of the event was to provide a unique opportunity for the team to reflect on their own leadership qualities, but also to identify areas for personal development and ways they can influence Co-op Belle Vue’s culture with positive initiatives.
Throughout the bespoke event programme, students completed masterclasses on the following themes, deepening their understanding of what true leadership looks like:
-
Covey’s 7 Steps of Highly Effective People
-
Team communication tasks
-
Spheres of Influence
-
Locus of Control
-
Tribal Leadership
-
Project development skills
The final session allowed smaller groups of the student leadership team to share ideas, all in preparation for a formal pitch to Ms Chapman in the last week of term; this allowed time to think about ways to enhance the Belle Vue experience for all students, taking into consideration our community’s shared needs and values. Beyond thinking of ideas, groups had to use planning tools to ensure their ideas have the capability of becoming a reality (identifying any potential barriers that could occur along the way).
The student leadership team were the perfect ambassadors for Co-op Belle Vue, representing the school with professionalism and enthusiasm. It was a joy for the staff involved to see our young leaders demonstrating all our school values, but particularly Responsibility, Community and Endeavour.
