Brilliant Club at Co-op Academy Belle Vue Nears Completion with Outstanding Student Success
The Brilliant Club at Co-op Academy Belle Vue is drawing to an exciting conclusion, with only the prestigious graduation ceremony at the University of Sheffield on 13th February 2025 left to go.
Over the past few months, 12 students have worked closely with lecturer Nima Khorramrooz from Manchester Metropolitan University, engaging in university-style tutorials on the thought-provoking topic: "How does language contribute to the use of power in society?"
The Brilliant Club, a university access programme, is designed to give students first-hand experience of university-level study, particularly targeting those who may not traditionally aspire to higher education. The programme challenged students to think critically, refine their academic writing skills, and engage in rigorous research-led learning.
At the start of the programme, students completed a baseline essay, receiving detailed feedback to guide their progress. Through weekly tutorials, they developed both their subject knowledge and essay-writing skills before submitting a final assignment that was assessed using university grading criteria.
The results have been outstanding:
-
7 students achieved First-Class Honours
-
4 students earned a 2:1
-
1 student secured a 2:2
These incredible achievements highlight the dedication and talent of the students involved. Now, they will have the unforgettable experience of graduating at the University of Sheffield, where they will celebrate their hard work and accomplishments.
A huge congratulations to all involved—this is just the beginning of their academic journey!
