Belle Vue's Bike Library is Open to the Local Community

To celebrate the official opening of our Bike Library, we offered free bike servicing with CERA Cycloan and Transport for Greater Manchester.

Bike libraries are local hubs that allow people to borrow a bicycle, like a book, to try out. They aim to boost access to cycles and give people a chance to give cycling a go. The bikes are held in our academy, and anyone in our community can borrow these from 1 day to 1 month. We will provide a lock, helmet, lights, and a bike, which must all be returned.

To demonstrate our dedication to the community, we've teamed up with suppliers who share our values and commitment to sustainability, highlighting our role in making a positive impact on the environment.

We purchased all of our bikes from CERA Cycloan who is a local, independent business that restores and recycles bikes. All of our equipment was purchased from The Charity Bike Shop, which donates all their profits to support children with cancer.

On 31st May, we opened our Bike Library exclusively to Belle Vue's school community to give our families the opportunity to give cycling a go. Our Bike Library aims to encourage our students to cycle to school and adopt active, environmentally responsible travel habits. Today our Bike Library officially opened to our local community!

To celebrate the launch of our Bike Library to the wider community, we hosted a Community Bike Servicing Event to promote cycling and ensure that our students and local community know how to maintain their bikes and can be confident that they are safe to ride.

CERA Cycloan provided the bike servicing for us, and it was great for them to teach our students basic bike maintenance, such as the M check and how to pump up tyres!

We look forward to hosting another community bike servicing event in the future. If you are interested in borrowing a bike from our Bike Library, more information can be found here.
