Mr Barker’s Update- 18 May 2021

Welcome to our fortnightly news letter. We are excited to share all the latest from Co-op Academy Belle Vue over the coming weeks and months. The progress we are making every single day is staggering, all with the end goal of opening up a fantastic school, not only for our new pupils in September but for our local community too.

100 Days!

We are almost down to double digits until we have our Connell Campus building.

We are excited to give you the latest news as preparations begin to ramp up on the way to September!

New build update

The foundations and concrete have now been finished. It is less than two weeks until we get the pre-built classrooms lifted onto site.

Until then we have to instal a gas membrane to the footprint of the building and you can see all the pipework in the foreground, that is going to make up the drainage system for the building too.

Permanent site update

Now that we have planning permission for our Hyde Road site, demolition has begun. We are hoping we may be able to use some of the existing foundations so as to cut down the build time and hopefully we will be able to move in on time.

I was fortunate enough to drive past a fortnight ago and see the size of the site. It will be a welcome addition to the area. We are hoping to have update pictures with you more regularly.

New house names

Our family and house system will be an integral part of our school ethos and culture. Every year seven form will be part of a particular family.

What are they called? Well you get to decide.

As part of our transition programme (Thursday 8th & Friday 9th July), our new year. seven pupils will be choosing the names of the Co-op Academy Belle Vue families. So who or what should we name them after, get thinking!

Reading over the summer

Don’t forget, if you are in year 6, make sure you get your copy of The Kid Who Came From Space. This book is being given free to every year 6 pupil in Manchester to help them prepare for September in high school.

We have had out teacher copies delivered, we are looking forward to talking through the book with you when you join us! Your primary teacher should have more details about when you may be getting your copy if you haven’t already.

Staff team nearly complete

We are so excited to say we have chosen our first maths teacher for 2021! After a rigorous interview and selection process, we are extremely excited by the new appointment.

Starting next week we will be introducing you to the newest members of our staff team, the collection of high quality teachers who will welcome you in September.
