Design Technology

At Co-op Belle Vue, our Design Technology curriculum aims to ignite curiosity, inspire creativity, and foster problem-solving skills in students. We envision a learning environment where our students are empowered to explore the exciting intersection of design, technology, and practical skills. We teach Food and Nutrition; Textiles and Product Design through our KS3 Curriculum.

The DT curriculum at Co-op Academy Belle Vue aims to:

  • Offer a broad, knowledge-rich and ambitious curriculum that provides students with the substantive and procedural knowledge to enable them to create a written and practical response to designing and making with a range of materials.

  • Explore a diverse, inclusive and anti-racist range of texts and develop and understanding of and appreciation for design from different cultural influences across the world.

  • Teach students the skills and techniques required to be able to confidently and independently perform in a practical setting, using their core knowledge . Students are able to thrive regardless of their starting points.

  • To ensure knowledge is sequenced by our subject experts to ensure the substantive and conceptual knowledge they acquire is returned to and built upon to form strong foundations through links with prior learning and future learning.

  • To ensure that all key concepts, vocabulary and substantive knowledge are interleaved throughout the curriculum so that students develop  strong foundations for their future learning, thus preparing them for their next steps. The curriculum for each year is taught through a theme. For example, in Food and Nutrition, Year 7 focuses on healthy lunchtime food, year 8 moves on to multicultural dishes and in year 9 we progress to a theme of sustainability and reducing food waste.
