Community Conversation

At Co-op Academy Belle Vue, we believe in nurturing not only academic achievement but also the social and personal development of our students. One of the ways we achieve this is through our unique initiative called Community Conversations. Community Conversations at Co-op Academy Belle Vue are more than just discussions; they're an integral part of our commitment to holistic education. By providing a platform for students to voice their opinions, explore diverse perspectives, and build connections with their peers, we empower them to become engaged citizens and compassionate leaders.

What are Community Conversations?

Community Conversations are interactive lunchtime sessions held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, where students come together in small groups to engage in meaningful discussions while enjoying their meals. These sessions are led by Mr. Haste, who introduces thought-provoking discussion topics and encourages students to share their perspectives.

Trending Tuesday and Thoughtful Thursday

On Tuesdays, we explore "Trending Tuesday" topics, which typically revolve around current events or issues making headlines in the news. These discussions encourage students to stay informed about the world around them and develop critical thinking skills.

Thursdays are designated as "Thoughtful Thursday," where the conversation shifts to topics related to our CARE curriculum. These discussions delve into themes such as relationships, careers, and health and wellbeing, providing students with valuable insights into their personal development.

How it Works

During each session, students are presented with the discussion question and key points from both sides of the argument. Students then have the opportunity to express their opinions, listen to their peers, and engage in respectful dialogue. This fosters a culture of open-mindedness, empathy, and effective communication within our school community.

Building Community

At the end of each Community Conversation, we come together as a community to reflect on the day's discussions. Students take turns initiating conversations, challenging ideas, and building upon each other's thoughts. All students do this confidently on the microphone in front of their peers. This collaborative approach encourages deeper understanding and allows students to practice important skills such as active listening and constructive feedback.
