Assistant Vice Principal for Personal Development Letter Home | Year 9 Mental Health Talk

Dear Families,

On Thursday 7th March, the academy will be hosting a special speaker for year 9 who will share a powerful story encompassing professional rugby, personal struggles, and the journey towards mental well-being and personal development.

Dan Sarginson, who has a unique perspective, bridging the worlds of professional sports and education, will draw from his own experiences during his 12-year career in rugby. He will candidly discuss his journey, which began with unconscious struggles that eventually became impossible to ignore. Through his story, he will shed light on the importance of mental health awareness and the impact it can have on every aspect of life.

The speaker's narrative offers not only insight into personal struggles but also emphasises the crucial connection between mental well-being and overall productivity. By addressing mental health and prioritising mental well-being, students are better equipped to reach their full potential and become the best versions of themselves.

The talk will briefly cover the topic of suicide and the impact that this has had on Dan’s life.

We believe that this talk will not only provide valuable information and inspiration but also spark important conversations amongst our students about mental health and resilience. We encourage you to take this opportunity to discuss these topics with your child and reinforce the importance of seeking help when needed.

Should you have any questions about the upcoming event, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for your support in fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for our students and emphasising the importance of personal development, so students know how to keep themselves and others safe, healthy, and well.

Sincerely,
Mr Daniel Haste
